Charlie wasn't ready to become a mother to Ruby and left her to be raised by Charlie's parents, Ross and Elise. When Charlie returns home, Charlie pretends to be Ruby's sister. "Home for us is Australia, but we love what we do, and so the dream is to eventually be able to have a base there to be near family and to work at home, but also work around the world." Grant arrives to the bay to explain to Ruby that he didn't rape Charlie. Charlie threatens Grant that she'll kill him if he's ever come near her or Ruby again.
He tells her again that it is wrong and decides to put some space between them. Ruby kisses Casey, but she later reveals she really wants to be with Romeo. She has sex with Romeo, but is devastated when he rejects her.

Her friends Jai Fernandez and Annie, who are in a relationship, make her feel lonely so she convinces herself she loves Miles. When her father Ross Buckton is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, she finds it hard to cope.
Storylines
Ross arrives at Yabbie Creek Police Station to investigate the murder of Sam Holden . He interviews Martha MacKenzie , the ex-wife of Sam's widower, Jack (Paul O'Brien) and quizzes her over a suicide note, which he believes to be fake. After some new evidence is discovered, Ross suspends the interview with Martha and brings Jazz Curtis in for questioning when new evidence is discovered.
They return however when Kane and Kirsty have relationship difficulties. Ollie is upset when Kane leaves for good but is happy to be back in the bay. Ross and Morag return to the bay the following year, It becomes apparent there are problems in the marriage when Morag appears stressed and Ross, forgetful. Ross disappears one night and is found wandering around by Charlie and tells her he is suffering from jetlag.
Martin Bartlett
Breeds began her acting career with appearances in television commercials. She landed her first lead role as Leah Pointin in the 2008 Australian filmNewcastle. Ollie and Kirsty stay with Irene, but problems are caused when Ollie bursts into Belle Taylor's room exposing her relationship with Aden Jefferies to Geoff Campbell and Annie Campbell . Kirsty then decides to move them into the caravan park, next to her old home Summer Bay house. Miles Copeland invites them to move into the house and they form a family unit with Miles and Jai.
Although she was nervous, Breeds was pleased with the end result. Ruby has a brief fling with Casey Braxton after her romance with Romeo ends. When Ruby realises that Romeo is back with his girlfriend, she sleeps with Casey.
Character History:
Rodrigues joined the cast in 2008 and he told Carolyn Stewart from TV Week that it had been a "whole new experience" for him because he was used to stage work. He added that he was excited about being recognised by viewers. Jai has a back story in which he lost his entire family in Phuket during the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami and he met the established character of Miles Copeland who had also suffered the deaths of his relatives. Rodrigues told Stewart that the character's loss created a "connection" between them and it made Miles bring Jai to Summer Bay. But as Miles previously left Jai in Phuket, this creates problems between them.
The extent of Ross' problems becomes evident when he reopens a cold case and searches for a body only for Jack to find the case had been solved years ago. After He goes missing again, Ross is taken to the hospital and diagnosed with Alzheimers' by Rachel Armstrong . When Ross nearly burns down Leah Patterson-Baker's house while trying to cook breakfast, he and his family realise he needs help.
Charlie is partnered with Jack Holden when she starts her job as a Senior Constable at the Yabbie Creek Police Station and her sister, Ruby, arrives in the Bay. Ruby begins entering surf competitions with Romeo and when his marriage breaks down, he tells her that he has feelings for her. Ruby suspects Romeo is going to break up with her and she tells him she is pregnant. Leah Patterson-Baker learns Ruby is lying and urges her to tell Romeo the truth. Ruby later notices Romeo trying to get back with Indi and she decides to tamper with the brakes on Indi's car in order to get rid of her. However, Indi's brother, Dexter , drives the car and crashes, leaving him with serious injuries.
Yet, her advances were unrequited and it created problems with her state of mind and began binge drinking. Breeds felt the storyline differed to her romance with Xavier, as it showed Ruby "headstrong and unconfined". Ruby later develops feelings for Romeo Smith and attempts to ruin his relationship with Indigo Walker. Off-screen Breeds is dating Luke Mitchell who plays Romeo, they had both previously stated they did not want their characters to get together in case it created problems for them in real life. Ruby and Romeo sleep together and after she is rejected, Ruby becomes wayward, self-harms and sleeps with Casey Braxton on the rebound.
Ruby feels guilty for what she has done and decides to hand herself into the police. Jai's spirits are lifted when Romeo Smith , an old friend from foster care arrives to stay at Summer Bay House. He asks Romeo for his help to win Annie back but the plan backfires when Romeo allows Annie to believe he is responsible for the love poems Jai has been sending her and Jai realises Romeo wants Annie for himself.
Ross agrees to go into care and Morag offers to go with him. Ross' other daughter Ruby, is warmer to Morag and eventually Charlie accepts the relationship. Ross later proposes and he and Morag marry in a small ceremony with friends and family present before honeymooning in Europe. Axel attends Nicole Franklin's house party and makes advances towards on to Belle Taylor but is rejected.
